Our Story

National Model Group of Schools established more than four decades ago, was founded with the mission of offering high-quality education to students from diverse backgrounds within the community. Under its umbrella, the National Model Senior Secondary School, Udumalpet emerged earning praise for its innovative educational approaches. The institution functions under The Indian Model Education Society and Charitable Trust.

Founder's Message

Established over thirty years ago, the P.N. Palaniswamy Educational Trust was created with a clear objective: to deliver high-quality education to students from diverse backgrounds. The inception of the National Model Group of Schools represented a significant milestone in fulfilling this mission.In 1987, Dr. P.N. Palaniswamy laid the groundwork for the National Model Matriculation School, starting with just two students and a small staff. Through his unwavering dedication, the school experienced remarkable growth, becoming a beacon of educational innovation in Coimbatore.

Dr. Palaniswamy's vision for holistic education set the school apart. By integrating martial arts, yoga, music, and dance into the curriculum, he created an environment where students could excel academically and personally. recognized academic structure while preparing them for admission to prestigious colleges and universities nationwide.

In 2006, recognizing the importance of a national curriculum, Dr. Palaniswamy introduced the CBSE curriculum and embraced technology to enhance learning. Despite his passing in 2012, Dr. Palaniswamy's legacy endures, inspiring the National Model Group of Schools to pursue excellence and student success.

Dr. P. Mohan Chandar

Dr. Mohan Chandar is the driving force who strengthened our founder's vision and built National Model into an ever-growing, future ready group of schools.

He completed his MBA in 1989 and is pursuing his PhD in Primary Education, combining academic insight with practical school leadership. In 1987, he took the reins of National Model School with a clear mission to create a constructive and functional way of imparting knowledge to every child.

Under his leadership, classrooms were transformed with ultra–short–throw projectors, visualisers, and interactive panel boards. He ensured every teacher was trained and empowered to engage students individually, identify their talents, and ignite a love for learning.

From just 2 students in 1987 to over 4,500 students across 4 schools today, the group's exponential growth reflects his vision and dedication. His guiding philosophy remains: "Happiness is a boomerang. Give it in ample to people around you, and it comes back in abundance."

Mrs. Uma Chandar — Secretary

Mrs. Uma Chandar completed her B.E. in 1997. She started her career as a software engineer, but turned to teaching out of passion. She believes that to be a good teacher one requires an inquiring mind and a supportive team. At the age of 30, as a mother of two, Uma decided to become a teacher, though she believes as a parent she was already a teacher, and regularly quotes Claudio Jones book titled "Parents are teachers too!". And, now for the past 15 years she has not only become a successful teacher but has helped other teachers realise their dream.

She has always believed a systematic and scientific approach towards teaching and learning process is the key to a successful teacher and student engagement. The paradigm has to be shifted from teacher centric to learner centric. Keeping this in mind Uma designed a curriculum which prepares the learner for 21st Century, which meant the learning has to be active, differentiated and collaborative.

For her the objective has always been to create a positive learning environment that allows all learners with varied disposition to thrive. She and her team regularly attempts to understand, analyse and devise strategies to make learners engaged in tasks assigned. She believes that today's classrooms are bustling with students sharing and participating actively, thus are already building on their knowledge and skills and at the same time making merry. This as per her is just the way it should be. She has now taken up an additional responsibility as a Manager, where she is not only getting involved academic but also administrative roles.
